We are sharing the results of the Trends report created by Vrbo, that analyses the changes in behaviour in Spanish families' travels. These are the 7 basic trends for the coming 2021:

Trend 1: Personalised Holidays

Trend 2: Family trips postponed, not cancelled

Trend 3: Nature Escape

Escaping the daily grind (27%), feeling like you're getting back to normal (27%), and improving mental health (21%) are the main personal benefits families are looking for from their holidays in 2021.

Over 67%%of Spaniards surveyed intend to travel to a non-urban destination and participate in outdoor activities (63%%). Furthermore, 62%% are considering using their 2021 holidays to discover a destination they've never visited before.

Following months of lockdown due to the health crisis, Spanish families have been looking for spacious properties with amenities that would allow them to enjoy the outdoors with their loved ones. Gardens (65%), barbecues (60%), and swimming pools (55%) were the most sought-after (non-tech) amenities by Spanish travellers on Vrbo** after the confinement.

Trend 4: Spend, but with quality

Due to the economic impact of the health crisis in Spain, 64% of travellers surveyed will spend the same on their next holiday, 25% will spend more and 11% will spend less when normality returns.

Trend 5: Making the dream trip a reality

If there's one thing that Covid-19 has taught Spanish travellers, it's that now more than ever they know how to appreciate the freedom to do what they want, travel where they want, and do it when they want to.

Trend 6: More space, please

Social distancing and socialising only with one's closest circle will continue to be part of Spaniards' behaviour in 2021. Regarding future trips, 72% of respondents state that they plan to go away with the same number of people as before, 14% will do so with a smaller group because planning is easier and they feel more comfortable when travelling, and another 14% will do so with more people, because they want to make the most of their time with loved ones.

Despite the fact that the size of travel groups has not varied significantly in 2020 compared to 2019, the demand for larger properties has seen a considerable increase, especially during May-August 2020 compared to the same period the previous year. The demand for properties with 4, 5 or more bedrooms on Vrbo in Spain during that period has increased by 65%and 55%, respectively.

Trend 7: Travel and remote working

This new situation has also led many Spanish families to change their habits, and what was once rare, like working from home, is now normal. 47%have used the possibility of working from home to combine it with travel, and 55%have enjoyed the experience and would repeat it. This new reality has also been reflected in the demand for properties with internet, which has increased after the confinement period (80%).

Juan Carlos Fernández, Southern Europe Regional Director for Vrbo, states: “The pandemic brought travel to a complete halt in 2020 and we don't know how the sector will evolve in the coming months, but this Trends Report, in which we combine survey data with internal Vrbo information, gives us a more precise idea of what Spanish families” travel will look like in 2021 and makes it clear that they wish to continue travelling.".

From Grupo ACV, we want to thank Vrbo for the information provided and you for continuing to be part of our family. We hope to see you soon in Marina d’Or and that we continue to enjoy together a family destination with an ever more varied tourist offering.
