Costas to regenerate the northern area of Les Amplàries beach for €300,000
The project includes the extension of the Elefants pedestrian promenade to the boundary line with Ribera de Cabanes. Dunes will be included and spaces will be provided with vegetation and a wooden walkway.
In order to carry out this intervention, the Directorate-General for Coasts and the Sea has already reached an agreement with the owners for the acquisition of the necessary land, which includes two campsites in the area.
Among other objectives, the project aims to curb the aggressive annual erosion and improve the northern area of Les Amplàries beach. The regeneration will reduce the beach's slope, meaning the sea will not crash against it as forcefully, which is when it erodes. This will result in six more metres of beachfront, where waves will roll in without crashing due to the gentler slope.
Work is scheduled to begin this May and is expected to last approximately two months. The municipal corporation has stated that “rather than constructing protective breakwaters, the Coastal Authority is more in favour of measures involving the relocation of existing structures.”.
Furthermore, the entire project «»will promote regeneration, as the beach's gradient will be reduced and the sea will not crash against it as much, which is when it erodes it, but rather it will have an extra six metres of travel, where the waves will glide without crashing due to the reduced incline,"" he explained. Measures that will curb the aggressive annual degradation and improve this northern area of Les Amplaries beach.
Jiménez highlighted that «it is very good news, which will mean an improvement for the area, which, furthermore, is the one with the shortest stretch of beach.».
The works are scheduled to begin this week and will last for approximately two months. For this reason, the mayoress stated that users will have to «be understanding» this summer, as the works will be underway, but it is for the common good.
The mayor also pointed out that in this way «there will be more metres to enjoy the beach and that, furthermore, when storms occur, with there being greater distance, it will be more difficult for the sea to reach private properties.». And it is that during the last great storms, these areas of the municipality were also very affected and suffered floods.
