At the start of 2021 The traditional price rises followed one after another which begin each year, but this year they will have a significant impact on the family economy. Specifically, the increase in levies such as the Insurance Premium Tax, VAT on sugary drinks, or the rise in the fee for some telecommunications services. These will have an impact of over €1.6 billion on Spanish consumers' pockets.
The last expected increase for the start of this year became effective on 23 February: The Disney Plus subscription. Due to this increase, your new customers (and those renewing their subscription) will move from paying an annual fee of 69.99 Euros to paying 89.99 Euros. That is, almost 20 Euros more per year.
This increase is in addition to the other rises we already saw at the start of January. Among those affecting household bills the most are the Increase in the Insurance Premium Tax, which goes from a 6% to an 8% and affects more than 30 million Spaniards. Also the rise in prices of some telecommunications companies like Movistar. And to finish, the increase in the energy term by 27% for regulated market tariffs.
How much will household bills rise with the new tax increases?
Barely had the year begun when we were faced with a sharp rise in electricity prices. Not only because of the increase that was already contemplated in the regulated tariffs (which amounts to approximately 93 euros per household). The Filomena storm and other factors that caused the electricity bill to skyrocket in the first days of the year also played a part.
This has been the rise that has been most felt in family budgets. But of great importance is also the Increase in Movistar Fusión tariffs (almost 35 euros more per year), which affects more than four million users. Finally, we will note the rise in VAT on sweetened and artificially sweetened drinks, representing an increase of almost 12 euros annually.
In addition to these increases in bills for essential services, we must add other price rises in various services and taxes:
- As we have already mentioned: the increase in the Disney Plus subscription fee. This went from €69.99 to €89.99, that is, €20 more.
- The self-employed contribution has gone up between €72 and €288 more per year (depending on the contribution base).
- The registration tax rose by 5%% on average this year. This increase will affect almost half of new vehicles and will result in an increase in their price of between €600 and €1,000.
- BBVA, Banco Santander, Caixabank and Banco Sabadell are increasing their fees, something to which the bank will add in April ING. These latter ones will start charging these fees for their Orange Account to less connected customers.
