The Covid-19 health crisis has created new situations that have changed our daily lives. Outdoors, we are obliged to wear masks, and indoors, we must take extreme care with social distancing and, above all, ventilation. Today, we are going to tell you about the importance of correctly ventilating the spaces you are in: whether it's your home, your office, or even your children's school, with a success story that makes us a little more optimistic about the future.
At home
Because although you can't see it, stagnant air is air that pollutes your home. Fortunately, it's also one of the simplest ways to clean your home and improve your health: ventilate, either naturally or with the help of a ventilation system. Air needs to be refreshed to reduce the amount of CO2, we reduce the amount of dust and say goodbye to bad smells. In the current context, it is recommended to ventilate so that respiratory secretions remain in the same space.
In the teaching centre
The world keeps turning, adapting to this new reality isn't easy but achieving it is in our hands. Today we bring you a success story to fill us with hope and apply it to our daily lives. When a space doesn't lend itself to ventilation, for example, due to a lack of windows or cold temperatures, forced ventilation must be used. Murprotec carried out a pioneering and successful study at La Salle La Paloma-Fundación Lara School. Since last August, one of the classrooms in this school has been fitted with an Air Handling Unit (CTA-Murprotec), a state-of-the-art device that draws in fresh air from the outside, filters it, and introduces it into the room, while the contaminated air is expelled outside through grilles.
An example of success
For the field study, two classrooms in similar conditions were used: the same number of students, the same layout, and the same square footage. In the classroom without an air handling unit, termed the “basic classroom,” natural ventilation protocols indicated by institutions were carried out, while the classroom with the device, termed the “AHU classroom,” remained ventilated by the electronic system and its windows were not opened at any time.
After eight weeks of measurements (the study will conclude at the end of the year), the data has confirmed that the CTA-Murprotec can regulate, minimise and manage the quality of CO2, humidity and temperature within the established parameters without the need to open classroom windows. In the “basic classroom”, CO2 levels at their highest peak reached over 2,500 ppm (parts per million), whereas in the “CTA classroom”, CO2 levels recorded, depending on the time of day, an improvement in air quality of between 15 and 35%, compared to the classroom that has been naturally ventilated.
In the office
If we want to apply this to our homes or schools, it's the least we can do to also do it in our workplace. The same success story that we explained in the previous point can be applied to any space, regardless of its purpose. Unfortunately, not all jobs can do without a physical presence, and that doesn't mean they should be exposed to stale and unhealthy air.
